New Things...

For starters, I've finished Lara's convertible dress. It is just as good as I was imagining. No pictures yet because we haven't met for me to give it to her at this point... Maybe that will still come.

Since I was able to finish that project I've been trying to come up with something new to do. I did take some time off from my things to help Dave record some background vocals for a song he is currently working on. I have never heard my voice recorded... til last night. It was .... , but he tells me it sounds good and I'm just not used to hearing it. We'll see. I am sure that he will get a mix that sounds great and then we can work on getting that song, and more, out there for the world to hear!

As for my projects... I'm thinking swimwear because a while back I bought fabric for this purpose. There is difficulty in this because of the construction without pattern. I think that I can base the basic shapes off of what I already have though. So this is an option. I have started collecting images of things I like or would like designs to be inspired from and this swimsuit from Victoria's Secret is what I have in mind.
What I am interested in trying is the beading and embellishments. I really like this cut for a bikini top as well so might model mine in that direction. Today when I head home I will need to scavenge my old beads and things for decoration that I can add to my suit. That will be fun!

Another project I have been wanting to do is to remake an old sweater into a dress. This project shouldn't be as difficult, but probably as time consuming because I'm thinking to add some crochet work in the areas that will be cut... Here is the sweater as it is now showing lines where I will be making cuts.So the plan is to lengthen the sweater by adding a piece in the lower midriff/hip region and then I want to cut the shoulders out!

Some other projects that could be in the works deal with all this fabric I just bought from a JoAnn fabrics store that was closing. I have a lot of work to do to say the least. haha

Cutest Combo!

My current project is another reversible, convertible dress for a new friend I met through my boyfriend. I'm not sure how they got on the topic of my making clothes, but she saw my dress and wanted one too. Our first time meeting was to go to the fabric store together. It was a good trip; we got to know a little more about each other beyond that of which Dave has spoken. So I helped her pick out fabric for the dress and I really liked what she ended up choosing.

I think that the combination of color and pattern is fantastic. I had been wanting to try one using a pattern and a solid, anticipating good results and I must say that I'm really happy with where the dress is going.

I'm really hoping Lara loves the dress when I give it to her. I'm actually wishing that it was mine and it isn't even finished yet, so I guess if she doesn't like it... :)

More to come on this dress... mostly because I'm super excited about it! Better go work on finishing it!

Needles & Pins

A couple years ago I was given one of the best gifts a girl could get, a sewing machine! Alright, so maybe not every girl would want a sewing machine, but this had definitely been on my wish list so that if I felt the urge to make a dress, I could just sit down and do so. After receiving the machine, I had worked on various projects from patterns. The outcome of these projects were clothes I'd be able to wear for work and for play. I was realizing during the construction of these clothes however, that something was still lacking. I was not utilizing my creativity as much as I could have been. I decided that I should be able to create my own designs.

The design of different garments comes relatively easy for me as it might for anyone interested at all in what they wear. People tend to know what they like and are also able to describe through drawing or words how this might appear. When it comes to making this description a reality, I'm still lacking skill so simplification became my strategy. As a result I devised a dress inspired by others I've seen on the market, but with a new addition that would allow for a broader range of variation.

The dresses shown above are in fact one in the same (just in case you didn't already catch on to this). Every time I wear my reversible, convertible dress I try to come up with a new variation. In future posts I may decide to show you how this dress can be worn as a skirt or even a shirt! This is an achievement for which I'm really proud as it has caught the attention of others who have requested one for themselves!!!

Ahaha!!!

So I'm not the savviest of persons when dealing with computers, but I learn as I go. I was pleased to learn tonight that drafts of posts can be saved to continue work on them at a later date! This is super exciting to me because I think it is going to take time for me to get just the right posts. These first two, and maybe the next several do not qualify as good posts in my mind. For that I apologize to any who might stumble upon this little space. haha I decided last night after the first post that I would wait to give anyone I know my address... Waiting until I have a couple posts that will be good enough for people to actually enjoy. That way these will be there buried, but serve as my stepping stone into blogging.

For so many reasons...

...I have wanted to start a blog. I have been inspired by acquaintances and friends who have begun to share themselves with the world through the web. Though timid at first, I have come to realize that documentation in this manner encourages continuous creativity through consistent creation of interesting posts to keep readers engaged. I consider my brain to be wired toward creation, therefore I am pleased with myself for embracing another form of creativity through blogging. I am excited to delve into who I am and be able to journal it for those who might be interested in learning about the things I love to know! So, welcome!
